The Mavin queen opens her 2017 account with the groovy 'All over' single.
Being Tiwa Savage
is hard. But it can also be so much fun and rewarding.
The Mavin singer
has gotten to the level in her career where she is irreproachable as an
artist, and celebrity.
Having passed all
of the test that life has thrown at her personally and professionally,
she is currently Nigeria’s version of Beyonce; loved beyond reason,
admired with no ceasing, and celebrated constantly as a symbol of female
achievement in Nigeria.
After doing the
unthinkable in 2016 by returning with an album early into her
motherhood, she found a way to get her bounce back. Numerous singles
have served as a ferry which took her back to the summit of the
continent, where she resides as a goddess, shining forth her light.
A
new deal with Roc Nation made 2016 a lot rosier, and she closed it with
a collaboration with US rapper, Remy Ma. How better does it get?
With 2017 arrival, her sophomore album “R.E.D”,
has run its course and served its purpose.
It has been a great ride,
but it’s time to create and release new art. And that’s what she has
done.
Introducing ‘All over’,
a Baby Fresh produced record which sails in just in time for the
promotional circle of summer hits across the world. The new song touches
on a very familiar topic of love.
There’s
a huge smattering of romance as Tiwa Savage opens with ‘Make we scatter
this place tonight…” She’s in her element again as a happy lover, who
is heady with passion, and expresses the feeling with abandon. “Na because of you I get goosebumps, this feeling got me falling…”
The
cadence and progression is very similar with the template on ‘My
darling’, the 2015 hit song produced by Don Jazzy. But this time, the
label boss is increasingly taking his hands off the console, and
allowing his protégés flourish with the artists on his books. Baby Fresh
has got this.
And while ‘All over’
is banging, its deep muscular beat patterns still requires multiple
listens to sink in.
It’s a single deserving of being the singer’s first
piece of work for 2017.
It’s
a new year, and the stakes are higher.
The Nigerian music industry
currently has no new artist pushing the borders of their art and
breaking through into the mainstream. This means that competition for
prime spots will be reserved for the top acts.
Add
that to the changing formula and template for creating number 1 records
in the country, and you have an industry which requires more and more
from the artist.
It will be crucial to
see what new levels Tiwa intends to upgrade her art to.
And whatever she
has in store for everyone this year, there are whispers of a big
project coming through.
