Mayweather McGregor given Sunday deadline for bout with retired boxing great

White, speaking on the Jim Rome radio show, said he will settle the matter with McGregor by Sunday or move on and forget about the much-teased possibility. UFC Featherweight Champion Conor McGregor, pictured in November 2016, has been the league's most popular fighter and is among its top money spinners

Mixed martial arts champion Conor McGregor has been given a Sunday deadline to agree to fight retired boxing great Floyd Mayweather, Ultimate Fighting Championship president Dana White said.

White, speaking on the Jim Rome radio show, said he will settle the matter with McGregor by Sunday or move on and forget about the much-teased possibility of matching star attractions from both fighting realms in one contest.
"I plan on having this thing locked up by this Sunday and then moving on to Team Mayweather and starting to negotiate with them," White said. "If we really do get it done in that time frame then this thing could possibly happen."
White, whose UFC group has rights to any McGregor fight and must make a deal with him before approaching Mayweather about coming out of retirement, likes his chances of at least having a pitch to make to the unbeaten boxer.
"I think they are pretty good," White said. "Hopefully Monday I'm going to go and sit down with Team Mayweather.
Floyd Mayweather retired in 2015 with a 49-0 record, which included 26 victories by knockout Floyd Mayweather retired in 2015 with a 49-0 record, which included 26 victories by knockout
"I still need to go negotiate with them. There's no guarantee that we're going to come to a deal."
White was also firm about getting the talks to that stage by next week or shutting down any chance of it once and for all.
"I just can't keep messing with this thing," White said. "I need to run my business and I have to focus on all the other things that are going on around here."
White's plans for McGregor-Mayweather, a megafight that he has said could make each fighter $75 million (68 million euros), were hit when boxers Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin set September 16 for their three-title middleweight showdown.
"That was the date we were shooting for," White said. "We should have moved faster in the negotiations."
The holdup, White said, "has nothing to do with Mayweather's side. This is on our side".
McGregor, a 28-year-old Irishman, has been the UFC's most popular fighter and among its top money spinners while Mayweather, a 40-year-old American, retired in 2015 with a 49-0 record including 26 victories by knockout.

David Haye Beaten boxer undergoes Achilles surgery

David Haye has undergone surgery on the Achilles tendon he ruptured during Saturday's heavyweight defeat by fellow Briton Tony Bellew, his representatives have announced. David Haye has undergone surgery on the Achilles tendon he ruptured during Saturday's heavyweight defeat by fellow Briton Tony Bellew, his representatives have announced.

Haye, 36, sustained the injury after slipping in the sixth round and fell to a surprise defeat in the 11th round when his corner threw the towel in after Bellew knocked him through the ropes.
"David underwent surgery to his right Achilles this afternoon, after completely rupturing the tendon during Saturday night's fight with Tony Bellew," read a statement from Haye's representatives released late on Sunday.
"David would like to thank everyone for their many messages of support, as well as the staff at the hospital."
WBC cruiserweight champion Bellew, 34, has revealed he broke his hand early in the fight.
Bellew, who appeared in the 2015 'Rocky' franchise film 'Creed', has revealed he is considering retirement, but says a big-money fight will be difficult to turn down.
"I don't know how many times more I can put my body and family through this," Bellew told BBC Radio 5 Live.
Asked whether he might retire, he replied: "It's an option. It's something I'm thinking about."
Bellew's promoter Eddie Hearn said on Sunday that American WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder and WBO champion Joseph Parker of New Zealand were potential future opponents for the Liverpudlian.
"I have a lot of options," Bellew said. "I don't know what's going to happen, but it will have to be something special."

Boxing Joshua to Tyson Fury: shut up and get in the ring

Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury exchanged jibes on Twitter on Tuesday with Joshua challenging the former world champion and fellow British heavyweight to cut out the insults and step into the ring.

Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury exchanged jibes on Twitter on Tuesday with Joshua challenging the former world champion and fellow British heavyweight to cut out the insults and step into the ring.

Joshua, the reigning International Boxing Federation title-holder, will face Wladimir Klitschko of the Ukraine in a world title fight at Wembley Stadium later this month in front of a British post-war record crowd for a boxing match of 90,000.
Fury labelled Joshua a "poor man's Frank Bruno" on Twitter in a reference to the popular British heavyweight of the 1980s.
That in turn led the muscular Joshua, a year younger than Fury at 27, to reply:
"Typical Tyson Fury, always talking BS around fight time. Same offer as last time.
Two ringside tickets, don't bring a plus one, it's for your fat ass."
Fury, who transformed the world heavyweight picture when he became the first boxer in 11 years to defeat Klitschko in 2015, paving the way for former Olympic champion Joshua's shot at a title, countered by saying: "I might be fat, but you're a paper champ and paper-chinned weightlifting rudeboy, wannabe badman.
"Know your place chump! Or I'll come back and (KO) you," he wrote on Twitter.
Joshua shot back: "Shut up and give me a date when you'll be back!
"You're the only reason we haven't had a fight yet! Be about what you say. I ain't going nowhere."
Fury and Klitschko twice agreed a re-match but the bout was postponed initially because of Fury's ankle injury and again due to the British fighter's mental health problems.
With Fury out of action, Joshua has established himself as one of the world's leading heavyweights.

She might have been thinking about it, but didn't inform us because we were kids.
We stayed out there, not long, only six months.
“It was a change and I thought I was going to go for the full course:
5.30am in the morning, up fetch your water, put like an iron in your water to warm it up.
Your clothes had to be washed and ironed.
“It wasn't an issue but I wasn't prepared. It was a good discipline.

We got beaten. That's my culture: beating.

In the (Nigerian) culture it's family, outside support; everyone

Nicola Adams Olympic champ hopes to put training tips to good use in pro boxing debut

Olympic champion Nicola Adams is confident training alongside some of the world's leading boxers will stand her in good stead when she makes her professional debut in Manchester, northern England, on Saturday. Great Britain's Nicola Adams (red) is one of several high-profile female amateur boxers to have turned professional in recent times

Olympic champion Nicola Adams is confident training alongside some of the world's leading boxers will stand her in good stead when she makes her professional debut in Manchester, northern England, on Saturday.

The 34-year-old British sports star has been training in a San Francisco gym used by Andre Ward and Amir Khan ahead of her bout with Argentina's Virginia Carcamo.
Virgil Hunter, Adams's new trainer, guided Ward from Olympic gold in 2004 to the heights of professional boxing and Adams believes he will do the same for her.
"There's so much knowledge in the gym and seeing guys like Andre Ward, who is the best in the world, training every day has left me a bit in awe to be honest," Adams said Thursday.
"Virgil has a lot of knowledge and one thing I like about him is he knows how to take an Olympic champion and turn them into a pro -- he did it with Andre and I think he's capable of doing the same with me."
Adams, an Olympic champion on home soil at the 2012 London Games and again last year in Rio, is one of several high-profile female amateur boxers to have turned professional in recent times.
Fellow Olympic champions Claressa Shields of the United States and Ireland's Katie Taylor have already made the move and veteran British promoter Frank Warren is keen to make the most of Adams's popularity.
Warren had ben a vocal critic of women's boxing but Adams has changed his mind and he is now looking forward to achieving the same success as a professional that she enjoyed as an amateur.
"Nicola lights up a room -- she's bubbly and she has an infectious smile and most importantly she can fight," Warren said.
"She's won everything as an amateur and she's one of the most recognisable boxers in the country.
"Now she wants to emulate what she did in the amateurs by winning a pro world title, and I'm sure she'll do it sooner rather than later.
"It's a matter of being comfortable and when she believes she's ready. I think she could fight for a title right now, but it's about winning that title and retaining it, and that's what we've got to do."

Philippine world boxing champion Manny Pacquiao's fight with Australia's Jeff Horn was confirmed by promoters Sunday, ending lengthy speculation about the bout.

The 38-year-old Filipino's camp announced last week in Manila that the "Pac-Man" would get into the ring with Horn on July 2 in Brisbane, but it was not backed by Australian promoters.
"After months of speculation, I am pleased to say we're finally all in the ring for this fight to go ahead," Queensland state Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said.
"Up to 55,000 boxing fans from across Australia and the world are expected to fill Suncorp Stadium (in Brisbane) to see the local teacher taking on one of the biggest names in boxing history, on his home turf."
Pacquiao, who has parlayed his sporting fame into a career in politics, is a veteran of 67 fights with 59 victories.
His record easily dwarfs that of Horn, 29, who hails from Queensland, who has notched up only 17 fights with 16 wins.
Horn's promoter Duco Events described the bout as a "once in a lifetime event" and a "rare opportunity" to host a fight outside the US and Europe.
"This is truly a once in a generation opportunity, likely never to be repeated again," the promoter said in a statement.
Pacquiao earlier this year chose to pursue a big money fight with British boxer Amir Khan in the United Arab Emirates until the deal fell through.

Mayweather Vs McGregor McGregor becomes eligible for boxing licence.

UFC star Conor McGregor can now apply for a boxing licence in Nevada after paying a fine. Mixed martial arts superstar Conor McGregor will need the agreement of his contract owner Ultimate Fighting Championship if he is to fight Floyd Mayweather

The hugely anticipated fight between Floyd Mayweather and UFC star Conor McGregor is drawing near as McGregor has been granted permission to apply for a boxing licence in Nevada.

McGregor had been unable to get a permission to apply for the licence due to a £60,000 Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) fine which came after a clash with Nate Diaz during a press conference in the lead-up to their bout at UFC 202.

The Irish fighter initially refused to pay the £60,000 before the fine was reduced to £20,000 fine and 25 hours of community service.
With the fine now paid, the anticipated fight between Mayweather and McGregor could be nearer.
Conor has paid his fine and Deputy Attorney General attorney fees. He's officially eligible for a [Nevada] boxing licence," NSAC chief Bob Bennett told Boxing News.

We've already met and had a very productive and cordial meeting. I really haven't spoken to him about his intentions, we wanted to clear up the pending litigation with the fine and his attorney requested a re-hearing.
“It was a win-win, they got to articulate their interests and concerns and we were able to do the same.”
McGregor is expected to apply for his boxing permit soon.

Boxing Lomachenko taunts Sosa en route to WBO junior lightweight title

Vasyl Lomachenko easily retained his WBO junior lightweight title on Saturday, with a dominating boxing display over Jason Sosa, whose corner pulled the plug at the end of the ninth round.
Jason Sosa (L) of the US exchanges punches with Vasyl Lomachenko of Ukraine during their WBO super featherweight world championship bout, at MGM National Harbor in Oxon Hill, Maryland, on April 8, 2017

Vasyl Lomachenko easily retained his WBO junior lightweight title on Saturday, with a dominating boxing display over Jason Sosa, whose corner pulled the plug at the end of the ninth round.

The 29-year-old Ukrainian cemented his status as one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the world with a ninth round TKO in just his ninth pro fight.
"I came into the ring to do my job. I think I did my job really well," said Lomachenko.
Lomachenko used his speed, skill and power to improve to 8-1 by outclassing American Sosa who wouldn't quit despite taking a beating from the opening round.
In the fifth round, Lomachenko mocked Sosa by pretending to hold out a cape as if he was a matador toying with an angry bull in the ring.
Sosa's trainer stopped the fight after the ninth round, first removing his boxer's mouthpiece in the corner then motioning to the referee.

Sosa was not supposed to be in this fight, coming in as a 25-1 underdog, and it showed. He was a willing participant but was Lomachenko's third choice after the others declined.
But he did manage to bait Sosa into this one and no amount of banderillas or mounted picadors could save Sosa from the inevitable.
Lomachenko's inability to get anyone to fight him in the 130-pound division has him seriously considering moving up in class to 135.
"I am going to call Top Rank (promoter) Monday and see if I can fight any of the 130 pound champions. If we can't get anybody we can move to 135," he said Saturday.
Lomachenko turned pro after a superb amateur career that saw him record 396 wins and just one loss. He won back-to-back Olympic gold medals (in different weight classes) for Ukraine in 2008 and 2012, as well as a pair of amateur world titles.
A brilliant boxer who is above average in every category including power, speed, defence, technique, ring intelligence, the quick start to his pro career has been historic.
He won a featherweight world title in his third fight to tie the boxing record for fewest bouts needed to win a world title, and set a boxing record by becoming a two-weight titleholder in his seventh fight.
Lomachenko landed 275 punches compared to just 68 for Sosa.
After a tentative opening round, Lomachenko stepped up his offence at the end of the second by landing a flurry of punches.
By the fifth round, it was apparent that Sosa was hopelessly overmatched, putting more energy into ducking punches than throwing them. Lomachenko was teeing off on Sosa at will and if there was a mercy rule in boxing this fight would have been over before the seventh round.
