5 times Nigerian artists have promised to release joint albums and failed to deliver

Pulse acknowledges all the times our dear Nigerian artists have promised to do a joint project, and not done it.
Banky W and Iyanya

How many times have our artists promised and failed at giving us new material? Countless.

Artists in Nigeria promise and fail on the regular. Half the time, if you listen to Nigerian artists and their utterances, you would marvel at the amount of promises they make. From grand acts of kindness, to verbal commitments to make grandiose things happen, they excel at it.
But you know what they fail to deliver the most? Promised projects. How many times have we had two Nigerian artists come together and promise to work together and create a dope project? Almost none. That’s why when two artists come together to create an album or an EP, it does feel like Christmas.
And that's because all of the times they have promised, they end up failing to keep that promise.
So, in the spirit of accountability, Pulse acknowledges all the times our dear Nigerian artists have promised to do a joint project, and not done it.
Ruggedman and Faze

In 2005, Faze and Ruggedman had a project planned. A first single was already done, titled ‘’Rock with me’, and then things didn’t move forward. An album art was done, and everyone was getting ready for it.
“It was Faze…that would have been massive.” Ruggedman told Pulse in a 2016 interview. Turns out ID Cabasa was the chosen producer. Ben Bruce had introduced Kaline to Ruggedman, and they had began to record. But Faze went behind the group and began to record his solo songs with ID Cabasa, and the project was scrapped.
Banky W – Iyanya

In 2016, after when the year came in, a lot of promises were made but they were never kept. This time its from Banky W and Iyanya. Fans were excited after the duo announced and granted interviews saying they were working on a core R&B joint project to play to their strengths.
But that was it. Nothing else happened, and the project was scrapped.
Wizkid- Wande Coal

Wizkid ought to be the king of failed promises. The Starboy has promised Nigerians so much, and failed to deliver even a tiny part of it, that it has become habit to doubt him. From concerts, to singles, to albums, nothing is too big for him to play with. In 2016, he came through with a new set of promises which include 4 mixtapes, and one of them will be a joint project with Wande Coal. Wande Coal neither denied nor confirmed the story. But we all know how this is going to play out. Nothing would play out.
Overdose, Terry Tha Rapman, Pherowshuz

Three of Nigeria’s most respected rappers, Overdose, T.R and Pherowshuz came up with the bright idea of the greatest Nigerian rap compilation album ever released. According to official press releases, the project would be named “B.A.N.S”, an acronym for ‘Boys Are Not Smiling’. The rappers spent months in the studio, working on the project, and released a number of singles.  But nothing happened. The project and its hype petered away, and everyone moved on. How sad.
M.I Abaga and 2face Idibia

In 2016 too, M.I Abaga and 2face Idibia decided that fans were ready for a joint album project. They began work on it, took promo photos and even dropped the ‘first single off the project - ‘Babylon. But it didn’t work out. No official announcement was made, but it was meant to be a reality. Would have been dope though.
