The Kano State Council of the Nigeria Union Journalists (NUJ) has condemned in strongest terms the recent attack on reporters of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Kano, at Kofar Wambai Market.
A
statement signed by the council’s Secretary, Usman Bello in Kano on
Wednesday said the Council found it necessary to condemn the act because
it was carried out while they were discharging their professional
duties.
“More condemnable is that the attack was carried out on a woman journalist.’’
The
union, however, commended the swift action taken by the Nigeria Police
in the arrest and arraignment of the suspected hoodlums.
It
reminded the general public that journalists are working to protect the
interests of people and, therefore, do not deserve such treatment.
NAN
recalls that some undesirable elements on Monday attacked some NTA
reporters, including a lady, who were in the market to file a report on
some illegal structures erected at the market.
NAN also recalls that no fewer than five suspects were apprehended by the Police and charged to court.
